Purpose Of The Website

The Jewish Community of Groningen and the synagogue of Groningen are visibly a part of the religious communities in the city with the characteristic that the composition of the community is international. The proportion of arriving and resident students is large and is an important fulcrum for maintaining the Jewish community. The mix of people goes wonderfully well, with Groningers, Dutch, Americans, Israelis, Ukrainians and Russians all keeping the common goal in mind: fulfilling the religious and social purpose of the Jewish Congregation of Groningen. Anyone of Jewish descent who feels drawn is always welcome to attend the meetings and celebrations.
The fact that the Jewish Congregation resides in a beautifully refurbished and maintained synagogue building that will be exactly 120 years old in 2026 is a crucial factor in the continued existence of Groningen’s Jewry.
This MAROR-funded website makes digital accessibility much greater and easier. Interested people know how to find the Jewish Congregation and sign up for meetings. This is of great significance in keeping the Jewish Congregation viable.
